The launch of the New Xbox Experience has Microsoft showing up unfashionably late to the adorable avatar party. In a blatant case of Mii mimicry, the system update served up the ability to craft cutesy caricatures to act as your new online polygonal persona. Lame clothes, disturbing facial hair options, and Ted Kennedy-sized craniums are all included. But does the mostly hardcore collective of 360 gamers really want to outfit their digital doppelganger in threads that consist of the no-fashion stylings of Old Navy spooning Hot Topic in the spring 0f 2003? No, they want a personal reflection of what really matters in the competitive, trash talk-laden environment that is Xbox Live: Private part posturing.
Fall has fell and the offerings of actually playable game releases on XBLA have come to a grinding halt. Sure we had a plasma sword incision to the wallet with the quality offerings of the Summer of XBLA, but like a drunken night of go-go grab-assery, the house lights eventually come on and all things rad must come to an end. These are the demo dog days of XBLA. If you can actually make it past 2.4 minutes into the trial of these games, or even worse dish out the digital duckets for them, then you must be the same dude who thinks that Brazilian g-string grinder you donated your Honda payment too will actually go back to your studio apartment with you for microwaved White Castle burgers and private choreographed crotch crunches. For your safety and sanity, here is a run down on some of the past few weeks offerings of downloadable diarrhea.
Microsoft has so graciously decided to put a temporary cease to its trickling of craptastic arcade titles and open the flood gates to quench the drought of quality downloadable games with the blessing (pocket drain) of it’s Summer of XBLA lineup. Staying true to my proud form as typical American consumer, I took it as my responsibility to take 16 digits printed on plastic and exchange them for virtual space bucks in a transaction where no real life rules of conversion apply. I attempted to determine the exchange rate of dollars to MS points and my calculator graced my wrist with a release of pudding flow that carried the stank of a half digested numerical anxiety attack. Here’s the run down on the deluge of downloadable offerings.
